Heritage sites are valuable representations of our past. Today we have the technology to capture digital twins of these sites with millimetre accuray in 3D. These models are not only a sophisticated documentation of the current state of decay, but also a modern data foundation for scientifc and historic investiagtions as well as reconstruction and renovation work.

Reality Capturing describes modern 3D surveying techniques such as photogrammetry and laserscanning. Data is collected form both terrestrial and airborne plattforms and merged into 1:1 scale digital twins from the observation sites. With the know-how of geodetic experts and external reference information these 3D models can reach an accuracy of a few millimetres. Drone images are also used for texturing the resulting mesh, so that the 3D models do not only contain geometry but also realistic color information.
